About
Principal, Scott Allen Architecture
Scott Allen’s desire to do what he does best and loves most — work closely with each client to create unique, enduring, and thoughtfully-crafted architecture — were primary motivators for Scott to leave Seattle-based Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects in January 2009 to start Scott Allen Architecture.
“We accomplished a lot of things I’m proud of in the 23 years I was at Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen. We took the company from about eight people to an 80-plus person firm and international recognition. I’m especially proud that it was on my watch as Managing Principal, a position I held for 13 years, that we were named the 2009 National Firm of the Year by the American Institute of Architects. It was a great experience and a great firm. Now I get to take all I’ve learned and focus on my own design studio. This is incredibly satisfying to me.”
Scott Allen Architecture leverages Scott’s broad range of experience in design and management, honed by three decades working with residential clients, commercial entities and public institutions. With his strong network of professional colleagues and building industry leaders, Scott brings together and leads the right team for each project. He delivers architecture that combines three critical but often elusive qualities – creatively conceived design, careful execution and cost efficiency.
Scott’s architecture responds naturally to each client’s individual program and site. His exacting approach to design carefully balances rigorous process with strong design intuition. Working closely with each client, Scott builds an understanding of their ideas, their specific needs and the particularities of the site to establish a strong conceptual framework. The strength of these ‘bones’ allow the design to evolve naturally, as the more detailed aspects of the project are developed. Through this process, the give-and-take of ideas between everyone involved is welcomed and encouraged. This strong collaborative process helps Scott create architecture that truly responds to all the factors that influence it, from the big idea to the subtle nuance.
Giving Clients More
Scott’s long-standing dream to make great architecture accessible to more people inspired his company’s business model, which is based on the sustainability principle of “less is more.” For Scott Allen Architecture that means less of a physical foot print and less overhead in order to give clients more — more value, more thoughtful focus and the freedom to bring a larger pool of design professionals, craftsmen and artisans to each project.
The end result –- more client satisfaction and architecture of the highest quality.
Scott is a graduate of the University of Washington, where he received a BA in Environmental Design, and the Graduate School of Fine Arts at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Master of Architecture degree.
